Sexting

Sexting means exchanging intimate messages via mobile messaging. The aim is to arouse each other sexually. Some multimedia messaging services make exchanging erotic pictures possible and incredibly easy. That way, sexting can give sexual desire another real kick. The word sexting itself comes from the English-speaking world and is a portmanteau combining the word sex with the word texting. In Germany, people generally use the term sexting for sending erotic photos via smartphone.

The Young Generation in a Sexting Frenzy

Young people aged 12-18 in particular are easily influenced by media of all kinds. Today's youth are quite precocious when it comes to topics like sex and pornography. The internet makes it possible. Films and pictures with pornographic content are freely accessible to teenagers. Sometimes these films or pictures are passed on from friend to friend. The spread reaches an uncontrollable scale and can no longer be stopped. Sex isn't a taboo topic - after all, everybody does it. The stars on TV set the example. It becomes especially dramatic when teenagers take an erotic star as their role model and develop the wish to become just as famous and well known themselves, even if it means showing themselves so openly. The inhibitions are getting lower and lower, and for many it's the most normal thing in the world. They want to prove something to themselves and their friends and capture their transformation from little girl to erotic starlet on camera. But it can always get worse, because the young girls and boys want to prove something to themselves and their friends and send their recorded pictures or videos on to their friends. This is where the vicious circle begins, because the photos spread like wildfire and it's nearly impossible to stop that from happening.
